About this Course
This two-day induction program is designed for support companies aiming to equip staff with essential skills in crisis management and conflict resolution. Combining accredited and non-accredited training, it provides a strong foundation for new employees in the support sector. Through theory, practical exercises, and interactive discussions, participants learn to recognise and respond to crises and resolve conflicts effectively. This course lays the groundwork for a resilient and well-prepared workforce.
Introduction
Day 1: CHCCCS019 Recognise and respond to crisis situations
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to recognise situations where people may be in imminent crisis, and then to work collaboratively to minimise any safety concerns and make plans to access required support services. Core elements include identifying imminent crisis situations, addressing immediate safety concerns, providing referrals for crisis intervention support, and practicing self-care.
This unit applies to any community services worker involved in crisis intervention. Management of the crisis may involve face-to-face, telephone or remote contact with persons involved.
Day 2: The CURE Methodology - A Methodology for Managing Conflict and Crisis
What is the CURE Methodology?
CURE stands for Cause, Understanding, Response and Evaluation.
This acronym can be used by individuals in supportive roles as a simple and easy to follow process when needing to intervene or manage conflict or crisis in support environments.
This training equips participants with practical tools to identify the root causes of conflict, understand individual responses, apply effective interventions, and evaluate outcomes to strengthen future crisis management and client coping strategies.
Day 2: Vicarious Trauma - Identification & Management Strategies for Workers Susceptible to Experiencing Vicarious Trauma
What is Vicarious Trauma?
Vicarious trauma is a process of change resulting from empathetic engagement with trauma survivors.
Anyone who engages empathetically with survivors of traumatic incidents, torture, and material relating to their trauma, is potentially affected, including doctors and other health professionals which includes support workers.
Core elements of the training include understanding the impact of trauma on individuals, recognising signs of vicarious trauma, implementing coping strategies to mitigate its risk, fostering self-awareness and regulation, and developing self-care plans.
